mackenzie ulam, ms, lpc associate, emdr-t
Hi! I’m Mack (she/they), a queer-identifying therapist supporting Texas residents from my practice in Allen, TX through the ups and downs of life. I’ve known that I wanted to be a therapist since I was 16 years old and began my own mental health journey. Now, over a decade later, Therapy with Mack, PLLC is born!
I’m a fellow chronically online member of Gen-Z. While I wouldn’t recommend being chronically online for the sake of your mental health, it does lend itself to fun references and a greater sense of authenticity in session. I’ll also share that I’m a Libra, and while I don’t fully comprehend the implications of that, I know that it helps some folks to get a better sense of who I am as a therapist.
a little bit more about my credentials!!
I graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 2023 with my Master’s of Science (MS) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Once I passed the big licensure exam, I could officially be called a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. Associate counselors do everything that a fully licensed counselor does (besides being eligible to take insurance) while meeting with a supervisor once a week. After 3000 hours of doing this, we become “upgraded” and the “associate” is removed! It’ll finally be my time to upgrade later this spring!
In 2024, I completed 40 hours of training in a type of therapy called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing in order to be considered EMDR-trained! This is a type of therapy specifically for trauma reprocessing, and you can learn more about it on my blog. I offer EMDR in additional to traditional talk-therapy, and you can read more about both on my services page.
my therapist persona
You will not find a blank slate therapist here. I believe the best therapeutic work is done human-to-human. This means that I won’t try to hide my facial expressions and remain neutral with you. If you ask me a question, I’ll answer it.
I also believe that knowing your therapist’s values is vital to feeling comfortable in session together, so here are mine: I am anti-oppressive, feminist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex-positive, and believe in health at every size.
outside of work
When I’m out of the office, you can usually find me at home with my partner and pets, playing a cozy video game. I’m especially obsessed with our cats and will happily show pictures if you ask. I’m also part of a book club that enjoys crafty hangouts and the latest “weird girl” reads. Throw in a sweet treat and a good reality TV show into the mix and I’m set!
